Something Great by M. Clarke

* This is a New Adult romance novel recommended for ages 18+ due to sexual content and mature subject matter.

She didn't know what she was missing...until he found her.

Maxwell Knight was dangerously good-looking, seductively charming, and definitely
trouble. He was everything Jeanella Mefferd did NOT need now.

Fresh out of college, life was predictable and comfortable for Jeanella. She had the
strength of her friends, the security of her job, and she was dating a reliable
man; it was all smooth sailing. That was until one night, when she met someone
who made her feel things she'd never felt before--dangerous, heart pounding,
breathless heat. Never imagining she would see him again, Jeanella has no idea what to do when fate steps in and thrusts Maxwell Knight into her life, just as things were
beginning to change around her. When she lands her dream job and travels to New
York for Fashion Week, can she focus on her career instead of on Maxwell?

Will she ignore all the danger signs and jump straight into his arms; or would she
miss out on the chance of finding something great?

Scarred by JS Cooper

Sometimes the deepest scars are the ones you don't see.

Everyone in Jonesville thought that Bryce Evans had the perfect life in High School: he was the Mayor’s son, the quarterback for the football team, the boyfriend of the head cheerleader and had a 4.1 GPA. His acceptance to Notre Dame came as no surprise but when he chose to enlist in the marines instead everyone was shocked.

Lexi Lord was the quiet girl in school and kept to her small group of eccentric friends. She had no connection to any of the popular kids except for one incident on Prom Night when her path crossed with Bryce’s.
When Bryce enlisted Lexi was the only one that wasn’t disappointed and decided to send him anonymous letters as a way to feel connected to him. She stopped after a year because she felt there was nowhere for their relationship to go.

Fast-forward four years and Bryce is back in Jonesville and once again he and Lexi cross paths. Only he’s no longer the seemingly perfect man and Lexi’s no longer the quiet girl.

This time their relationship is quite different but both of them have secrets from the past and friends that threaten to ruin their chance at happiness together.

Fall by Rachel Van Dyken

If you look up British in the dictionary…A-list celebrity Jamie Jaymeson’s name would be next to it. Along with charming, witty, man-whore, and a lot of other adjectives that he wouldn’t appreciate being attached to his name.
He has everything in the world going for him.
Until fate decides his number’s finally up.
Caught in a compromising position that really wasn’t his fault to begin with (really it wasn’t)—Jaymeson’s been told by his agent to lay low in the one town he swore he’d never return to—the seventh circle of hell, known by its residents as Seaside, Oregon.
Two months? He can do anything for two months. Especially if it means getting a part in the new book-to-movie series that has girls all over the world swooning.
Play nice? Keep it in his pants? Please. He played an alien once—he was going to totally rock it.
Until a certain someone who he may or may not have publicly humiliated—rejected, then humiliated again, suddenly pops up next door.
Self control has a way of flying out the window when the one girl you can’t have—is suddenly dangled right in front of you.
But Priscilla isn’t just off limits—she’s a pastor's daughter and barely legal to boot. So Jaymeson does the one thing he swore he’d never do—he tries to be friends. With a woman.
Only, it’s exactly what he needs.
Until suddenly, he craves more.
He wants to date her.
She wants to date someone else.
He wants to kiss her.
She asks him to give her lessons for her new boyfriend.
When opposites attract, sometimes the only option you have is to leap—and trust the fact that when you fall—that special someone falls too.

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins - The Sweet Trilogy #1 - 2 Stars

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

Two creepy stars
Blurb - Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?
Sweet Evil is the first book in The Sweet Trilogy and the first book I have read by this author.
Ok so the good bits...
·         This is an interesting twist on Good vs. Evil.
And the not so good bits...
·         These teenagers are far too highly sexed for their age!!
·         These kids are 16 & 17 WTF!! I don’t care about the non human circumstances why are they partying till the early hours, drinking, having copious amounts of casual sex and doing drugs!!!
Ok so this is a weird one for me, I enjoyed elements of this book but it also really wound me up.
This is a high school drama with a seriously seedy underbelly.
I quite liked the demons on earth in charge of the seven deadly sins idea, but what I really struggled with was the demons children’s roles.
They ‘work’ by evoking an emotion in human be it Lust, Wrath, addiction etc. But Kaiden is the son of lust so basically his job is to have loads of casual sex!! Now this could be cool if this were an erotic novel but it’s not.  In fact I’m sure this is classed as a YA novel, again this could kind of been overlooked until we learn that Kaiden has been ‘working’ since he was twelve!!!
This book hits the creepy factor again when we look at the twins the daughters of the demon for Adultery. They were sexually active at twelve and when one of the girls still couldn’t see the evil demon ghosts (they are only visible once all innocence has been lost) she was then sent to be raped and tortured by the sons of the demon for murder!!!
This is actually supposed to be a love story between Anna & Kaiden but I didn’t feel any chemistry between them.
God how inappropriate is the scene where Anna and her dad are training and he is plying her with stupid amounts of alcohol so she can learn her limits WTF the girl is barely sixteen!!!
If this book had been set at college and the characters were all very late teens or early twenties I think I could have embraced the story line. But they’re not Anna is only just sixteen and I honestly don’t care that she is half demon, half angel, the sex drugs and general bad behaviour is not appropriate for someone of her age.
If this book is classed as YA and my teenage daughter was reading it I would be appalled!!
To be honest the whole paranormal storyline is completely overshadowed by how creepy thinking about kids doing the stuff they do in this book, sorry but this is not my cup of tea.

Iris by R.K. Lilley - The Wild Side #2 - 4.5 Stars!!

Iris by R.K. Lilley

Four and a half i need to know stars
Blurb - ARE YOU READY FOR A TWIST?

Who is Iris? Where did she come from? Where has she gone?

Alasdair Masters has more questions than answers about his new, too young obsession, and when he finds out she’s been lying to him, from their first meeting to their last one, he’s more confused than ever about her feelings, her intentions.

And what’s just as confusing are his own feelings. Has he turned something purely physical into something emotional in his own head? Is any of it mutual?

The only thing he doesn’t question is whether he’ll keep going back for more.

DAIR
Me, I was simple. I was order. A very neat, efficient machine that ran on nothing but air.

Me plus anyone else, well, that was another matter. And me plus Iris, that was a monster of a machine, with all gears going at different speeds, some spinning off their hinges, just going mad, but it was a wonderful madness, at full throttle, misfiring in all directions.

It felt wonderful and dreadful.
I was breaking down, and it felt amazing.
And terrifying.

Iris is the second book in The Wild Side Series and god if you thought the first book was an enigma you have not seen anything yet.
Ok so the good bits....
·         Dair is literally like a different person from the neurotic hermit we first saw in The Wild Side I love him!!!
·         Iris, Christ I don’t even know what to say but she’s pure genius!!
·         Turner aka the tyrant is bloody hilarious!!
And the not so good bits...
·         This book was even shorter than the first book!!
·         The next book doesn’t come out till the 25th July I can’t wait that long!!
God I read The Wild Side and went straight onto Iris and after both books I’m still not really any closer to knowing what the hell is going on.
I have some suspicions that include the Vice President and car crashes but that could be completely out in left field.
Do you know what though I love guessing, I love that I’m stumped. The way that R.K. Lilley has written the two books in this series is just brilliant she has ramped up the tension and intrigue slowly. I mean hell for most of the first book I didn’t even really know there was something darker going on I was just suspicious!!!
And that’s why these books are so brilliant because it sneaks up on you, one minute I’m reading a sexy romance and the next I’m embroiled in a brilliant mystery where I genuinely I don’t have a clue!!!
Just like the last book this is a smokingly hot read, Dair & Iris (if that’s her real name wink wink) have a lot of chemistry and the sex is smutty and sexy and generally squirm worthy.
I love that R.K. Lilley has managed to name drop some of the characters from the Up In The Air series and Frankie & Estella even got to make a cameo lol.
Dair’s character has changed so much since we first met him and I love the new alpha backbone he has grown. Now I just need him to start fighting for Iris and I think we can expect that in the next book.
Again Iris is a complete enigma, I mean yes we learn some random facts about her but they are small and really don’t come close to explaining her or her situation. I still adore her she is so frustratingly vague and although it drives me insane for her to not explain what’s happening, the way the author has written her avoidance tactics is hilarious.
Overall I LOVED this book and I can’t wait till the next one comes out!!

The Wild Siide by R.K. Lilley - The Wild Side #1 - 4.5 Stars!!

The Wild Side by R.K. Lilley

Four & a half more than
meets the eye stars
Blurb - ARE YOU READY TO TAKE A WALK?

Alasdair Masters is in a rut. He just hit forty, has been nearly celibate for the past year, and his life has turned into a daily sequence of lonely patterns that revolve around avoiding human contact.

His tidy life is turned on its head when a hot young blonde at the gym that’s been pseudo-stalking him decides to rock his world. A very young blonde. Way, way too young for him. The problem is, he can’t seem to tell her no, and she just keeps coming back for more.

It doesn’t help that he’s ninety percent sure she’s a criminal, and still, he can’t seem to turn her down. What is a dull introvert to do when a chaotic cyclone that oozes sexuality comes twisting into his life?

At first, he thinks she’ll give him a heart attack, but after his twenty-year marriage ended a year ago, he’s been a little lost, and when she comes crashing into his life, he realizes that he’s never felt more alive.

Is a walk on the wild side just what he needs to get his on track or a disaster in the making? Is it possible for someone that much younger to be just what he needs, or is she a fortune hunter, as everyone keeps telling him? Is it his hormones telling him that the mysterious younger woman is the one, or could it be more?
The Wild Side is book #1 in The Wild Side Series by the author of the amazing Up in the Air Books.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this book but I was definitely pleasantly surprised.
Ok so the good bits...
·         Iris, god I absolutely adore her, what an enigma.
·         Dair he really finds his backbone in this book.
·         There is an air of surrealism in this book.
And the not so good bits...
·         This book was far too short for me; I was completely absorbed in the story when it ended... Not Cool!!!
Ok so from the blurb I really wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this book, what swayed me in the end was that I love this authors books so I figured I would give it a go.
I’m so glad that I did, it took me a while to warm up to Dair he was just a bit too much of a weirdo to start off with and I didn’t think I would engage with him.
How wrong I was! Dair seriously found his mojo again and Christ the bloke was like the sex energiser bunny he never stopped!!
I can’t quite put my finger on what is weird about him but something about him is a bit unsettling, now I can’t say that this is a completely bad thing is makes him edgy and ever so slightly mysterious and hell that’s sexy!!
I adored Iris she was super perky but I kind of felt like everything she did or said was a double entendre. Christ the girl has some serious sex appeal, she was starting to turn me lol.
I honestly feel that Dair completely misunderstood her though; I really didn’t feel like she had an ulterior motive for wanting to be with Dair but perhaps I’m wrong.
I love the mystery that is surrounding Iris I honestly have absolutely no idea what’s going on with her but I think she’s counting cards. I think there’s so much more to her than this book allows us to see.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what she’s up to and I’m hoping that some of the next book is written in her POV.
R.K. Lilley has a very dirty mind and the sex is hot as hell, the chemistry between Dair & Iris is literally crackling and I was seriously squirming through the whole book.
This whole book has a very surreal feel to it; I was half expecting Dair to wake up and for this all to have been a dream.
I absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait to find out what happens next, thank god Book #2 Iris is already out because I’m not sure I can wait for my next fix.

Mason by Tijan - Fallen Crest High #0.5 - 5 STARS!!!!

Mason by Tijan

Five Fabulous Stars
Blurb - Mason Kade is not known to be nice. He is ruthless, manipulative, and unforgiving. Most will say that he is an a**hole and he is to those that cross him or cross his loved ones. However, he does not want to be who he is. He does not enjoy hurting others, but there is no limit to the lengths he will go to protect himself and his brother.

This is the story of how he came to be and this is why so many love Mason Kade
Mason is book #0.5 in the Fallen Crest High Series by the genius who is Tijan.
So the good bits....
·         Mason Cade, Nuff said!!
·         Logan Cade, really nuff said!!
·         Nate, guess what nuff said!!
And the not so good bits...
I honest tried to come up with something bad about this book but I couldn’t find anything.
Ok so I need to have a fangirl moment and just go AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, I’m such a huge Tijan fan and the Fallen Crest High series are literally some of my favourite books. The Fallen Crest High books are the ones I recommend to absolutely everyone.
So as you can imagine I was ever so slightly pleased to read this book lol.
I am very happy to say that this book did not let me down it was bloody brilliant!!
I thought I loved Mason & Logan a stupid amount already but now I can say I both love and adore them.
God I know that this book is about Mason, but for me Logan really shined. Tijan gave us a peep at the hurt, pain and betrayal that is hidden behind Logan’s fun loving exterior.
Mason, Mason, Mason I really felt for him in this book, he was forced to be an adult and a parent to Logan at far too young an age.
I loved how we got a glimpse into Mason’s more vulnerable side; we definitely don’t get to see enough of Mason in the Fallen Crest High Books!!!
I would love to read Fallen Crest High all from Mason’s POV!!
Having read the whole book I have to say that I loved it but my absolute favourite bit was when Mason sees Sam for the first time. Talk about chemistry, they don’t even speak to each other and it still gave me goose bumps.
This book was bloody brilliant there’s nothing else to say except roll on Fallen Fourth Down!!!! It’s my most anticipated book of the year!

Welcome to Briarcrest Academy, where sometimes, only the wicked survive.
Very Wicked Things is book #2 in the Briarcrest Academy Series; I was given this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review so here goes...
Ok so the good bits...
·         Cuba god swoon!!!
·         Sebastian the beautiful background on this book can’t wait for his story.
·         Dovey she’s a bit odd but definitely engaging.
And the not so good bits...
·         This is all a bit dramatic for high school!!!
Ok so I read book #1 in this series Very Bad Things and I really enjoyed it, book #2 Very Wicked Things has been on my TBR list since it was released so to get a review copy was proper happy days for me!!!
On the outside this is an average high school drama, the jock and the unpopular outsider fall in love yada yada we have all heard, seen and read it before.
What this book adds is the darker side of humanity, the harsh realities that can lurk in the lives of both the rich and the poor.
I love that this is dark and gritty; I mean hell Dovey is only very young but she has seen and lived more than the majority of adults.
This isn’t really a love story the love has happened in the past this book is more about the hurt and desperation that follows them breaking apart.
I love this twist of the classic high school drama although this is an extremely dramatic high school!!
I loved Cuba he’s far too young for me to be lusting over but I kinda am, I really engaged with him I felt his pain and revulsion at himself and his feelings of guilt over his sisters and mothers deaths.
I will be honest this book is not exactly chemistry filled but I’m not sure it’s supposed to be. I felt the passion in both Cuba & Dovey but it wasn’t really aimed at one another more a passion for escape for Dovey and a passion for self flagellation for Cuba.
I liked this book the issues that both teenagers dealt with were harrowing and gritty and I loved the intensity of the writing.
The prostitution element of this book I felt was uncomfortable to read. I understand why it was poignant especially considering Doveys mother but still she was underage and I wanted there to be some comeback on both the man and her asshole of a father.
I love that the recurring theme in both books in this series are that family can be found in unconventional places. For both of the female leads in this series they have been let down by their blood relatives and have to find extended family in friends.
I loved how this book ended I’m so glad that they all had a happy ending and I would definitely read any more books that were written in this series.

Beauty In The Ashes by Micalea Smeltzer - 4 STARS

Beauty In The Ashes by Micalea Smeltzer

Four I Cried Stars
Blurb - Some stories are a fairytale...but this isn't one.

Caelan Gregory’s life fell apart the night he went home and opened the door to find his whole family murdered. Since then, his life has held no meaning. He’s angry. He’s bitter. He’s barely human anymore. There’s nothing left to remind him of the straight A student, and football quarterback he once was…but he wasn’t a good person then, and he’s certainly not a good person now. He’s retreated into a world where all that exists is numbness and his passion for painting.

When Sutton Hale moves into the apartment across the hall from Caelan she’s not prepared for her reaction to him. Something in his broken blue eyes calls to her—after all she’s always had an irrational need to fix everything.

But Caelan doesn’t do relationships or feelings. He does drugs and alcohol. However, he can’t ignore his desire to get to know the raven-haired woman across the hall.

Two broken souls trying to mend one another.

But not everything can be fixed.

In the end, Caelan and Sutton will have to learn that there
is beauty in the ashes.
Beauty in The Ashes is the new standalone novel by Micalea Smeltzer; I was given this ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review so here goes...
Ok so the good bits...
·         Caelan, he’s a tormented soul I wanted to give him a massive hug.
·         Sutton, she’s almost as damaged as him and I wanted to hug her too.
·         This book made me ugly cry!
And the not so good bits...
·         I really disliked Memphis for me he just came across a bit creepy.
Ok so I want to keep this review spoiler free so in some places I’m going to have to be a bit vague but once you read the book this will all make sense!!
I absolutely adored the first three quarters of this book; I loved Caelan & Sutton together. They absolutely should not work, I mean hell they didn’t work together but I just loved them.
It’s rare that I engage with both the male and female lead characters in a book but in this case I really did. I found myself completely absorbed in them and their relationship.
Now don’t get me wrong they are basically like a car crash waiting to happen but I still spent most of the book with my fingers crossed willing it to be ok.
This is a big ole book one of the longest I read in a while and I still devoured it in one go in fact I couldn’t put it down.
Unfortunately after the big dramatic event that happens for Caelan & Sutton for me things all took a dive, I actually could not believe what I was reading.
Now it’s rare that a book actually makes me have a vocal reaction but I will tell you now I was shouting at my ereader it went a bit like this “No, No, No, No, this cannot be happening, that’s not right, No No No!!!”
I basically chanted this for about the next 100 pages and even now I can tell you I was not a happy bunny!!
Now I know that in the end things all work out for the best but I’m a massive sucker for a love conquers all happy ending. I know this does end happily but just not quite how I wanted it toL.
Talk about an emotional rollercoaster this book has taken me on a serious journey, I felt the stirrings of new love, I felt their heartbreak and then in the coffee shops scenes in the last pages I literally cried like an idiot!!
I loved and hated this book for me its Four stars it would have been a Five if it had ended like my ideal.
