Saxon by Chantal Fernando - 3.5 Stars

Saxon by Chantal Fernando

3.5 All for Saxon Stars
Blurb - Some men won’t take no for an answer.

And some women might find this flattering, being asked out over and over again by a man determined to have you. But not me.

Not that the man in question isn’t sexy as sin, funny as hell and charming as they get.

Because he is.

Sometimes you just can’t allow yourself to be interested in someone for other reasons, other variables.

This is one of those times.

Saxon Tate is my best friend’s ex-boyfriend.

He cheated on her.

He could possibly cheat again.

That's three strikes.

He’s out.

Saxon is the first book in what I’m hoping will be the Morning Alliance Series, I’m a massive fan of this author and have read several of her other books.

Because I’ve read some of Chantal Fernando’s books I already knew that Ryder was a character from her Resisting Love Series. I also knew that Reid Knox is a character from her Maybe Series!!

So basically Saxon is a bit of a spinoff from both of her other brilliant series and hell that definitely works for me lol.

Saxon, from what I remember of him in Ryder’s book he comes across as a complete douche. Thank god he’s had a personality transplant just in time for his very own book lol.

Ok so back to me LOVING Saxon, he’s bloody adorable and sexy as hell. I love an alpha man and when Saxon switches into caveman mode I will admit to fanning myself to help me calm down.

There is quite a lot of sex in this book, but nothing too filthy so your mom won’t be offended if you pass this book along once you have finished it lol.

Tee is hilarious she literally has no shame and no filter I LOVE her, she’s my favourite female character in all of Chantal Fernando’s books.

I really engaged with her character, she says what she thinks and feels and it’s obvious that she’s not playing games. I found her really easy to relate to and I really wanted her to find happiness.

My only criticism of this book was that there wasn’t any real drama; it was all just happy, happy.

Now obviously Tee & Saxon living happily ever after is a good thing, but I was waiting for something to happen and it never did. I’m sorry to say that I was a bit disappointed I love the grit that makes the love just that bit sweeter.

This is a nice book about lovely characters; it’s an easy, short read perfect for a holiday or just a warm and fuzzy night in. This book gets 3.5 stars from me.

One minute, I was standing there, waiting for him, and the next, I was knocked down to the ground. I shrieked as a body pinned me against the ground.
“Shut up!” a voice growled out as a hand clamped over my mouth.
Ally. I was so screwed.
I tried to push her off of me, but it was no use. For as tiny as she was, she was strong.
“You think you’re so badass, walking around with Jesse like you own him. Well, I’ve got news for you. He’s mine, and you need to stay the fuck away from him.”
“Emma! Where are you?” Jesse called from close-by.
Thank God.
Ally cursed under her breath. “You tell him about this, and I’ll beat the ever-loving shit out of you. Remember what I said—he’s mine.”
She was gone as silently as she’d appeared. I was still lying on the ground in shock when Jesse walked up to me

Break Free by Amber Garza - 4.5 Stars!!

Break Free by Amber Garza

4.5 Dark and Moving Stars
Blurb - Jade Mathews is on the run. Running from an addiction that almost destroyed her, and a man who wants her dead. Kyler James is a writer, a recluse locked in a prison of his own making. When Jade and Kyler meet they find solace in one another and start to heal. Until Jade stumbles upon Kyler’s latest manuscript and is shocked to find that it is her story. One he couldn’t know. Jade fears she’s trusted the wrong person once again, and this time it may be her undoing. Is the past destined to destroy them, or will they finally break free?

Break Free is a standalone novel by an author I am a big fan of. Having read several of Amber Garza’s books I was very excited to have been gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review so here goes...

I like Amber Garza’s books, all of the ones I have read have all had something in common, they are light, cheerful love stories that I can guarantee will leave me with a big case of the warm and fuzzies.

Break Free is not at all what I was expecting!!!

If I were to describe the books I have read from this author like a person I would say that they were a perky cheerleader. Well Break Free would be an angry Goth lol!!!

This book is dark and gritty, it’s uncomfortable to read and yet it’s breathtakingly moving and harsh, simply put its brilliant!!

Jade is a hauntingly engaging character, I don’t think I can say I like her but I was completely absorbed by her story.

To say that this book was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster would be a serious understatement!! I felt Jade’s pain and sadness, I cringed as she had flashbacks to her awful abuse and I felt my heart clench as she started to allow Kyler to get close to her.

I think I always knew who was abusing her but I still gasped when she turned to ‘him’ and said “Hi Dad”.

Now Kyler, talk about geek chic lol something about him was sexy which is odd considering that his behaviour was not sexual at all.

It’s amazed me how emotive the relationship between Jade & Kyler is considering they have very little physical interaction they have. I never really felt a sexual spark between them what they feel for each other felt more like and enduring love.

This book is weird and it definitely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I loved it. Jade &
Kylers love story is a quiet one that lingers and quietly creeps across decades of fear and abuse at the hands of the men in Jades life.

When all is said and done I really fell for this book just brilliant 4.5 stars.

Dare You To by Katie McGarry - Pushing The Limits #2 - 4 Stars!!

Dare You To by Katie McGarry

4 Full of Attitude Stars
Blurb - If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all...

Dare You To is book #2 in the Pushing the Limits series, I read and loved the first book in the series Pushing The Limits here’s a link to my review.

I will be honest and say I did not like Beth at all in the first book I thought she was a bitch with a serious attitude problem.

How do I feel now well she’s definitely a bitch with a massive attitude problem but I engaged with her character enough to not care lol

I love that she is strong and resilient but once she connects with Ryan we see a much more insecure and peaceful Beth.

Ryan, Ryan, Ryan at first glance he comes across like a dick, he is very young and naive and acts very much like you would expect a 17yr old boy to behave, but I really liked his character. He acted his age and he made Beth remember that she is a teenager too.

I this Katie McGarry did a great job at highlighting how different Ryan & Beth are and why. Beth has lived an awful life surrounded by drugs, violence and poverty, while Ryan lived a seemingly charmed life in a nice area with supportive parents.

This book shows that you can’t judge a book by its cover, Ryan’s home life may appear perfect but his parents are a nightmare!!!

How Ryan only ends up punching his dad once in this book is a miracle!!!

His mom is just as bad I actually feel like they were worse than Beth’s mom at least she was openly a mess, Ryan’s family acted like the perfect family in public but fell apart in private.

I feel soooo sorry for Isaiah the poor boy is left heartbroken.

I love how Ryan & Beth complement each other, she gives him edge and he mellows her out they are just adorable.

I’m so glad that she didn't totally change from Skater girl to homecoming queen her edge and attitude is what draws the reader to her.

I enjoyed this book, I don’t think it has as much edge as the first book in this series but it still drew me in and I couldn't put it down. 4 stars.

CASH'S FIGHT
The Last Riders Series #5
Jamie Begley
Released Aug 25th, 2014
Young Ink Press

Blurb

If it’s not broke don’t fix it.

That was Cash’s motto in life, and his life was perfect. He was living the life of the lieutenant of The Last Riders, and had women at his beck and call. The only thing he saw himself settling down with in the future was a twelve pack; certainly not Rachel Porter, who was on his short no fuck list. Hell, she wasn’t even his type—her tits were too small, and her mean mouth could shrivel a man’s dick. How was he supposed to know she was special and worth putting up with those weed-producing hillbillies? Or was she?

Rachel had lived her whole life watching Cash break one woman’s heart after another. He was everything she shouldn’t want; a bad boy biker with enough sex appeal to make any woman want a night in his bed. Even her. Heck, he wasn’t even her type—he didn’t know when to keep his mouth shut, and he lived in a sex club. How was she supposed to know that he was special and worth putting up with the biker wars and biker bitches? Or was he?

Excerpt

“Which room is yours?”

“Go to Hell.”

“Shh... or you’ll wake everyone up. Either tell me which room is yours, or I’ll turn you over my knee here and Cheryl might wake up and see.”

Rachel felt ashamed of herself. She couldn’t understand why she had overreacted in the first place. Maybe because he had compared Cheryl to Sleeping Beauty and all she got was the reproach for protecting a friend.

“The next door on the left.”

Cash turned out the light. Then, holding her arm tightly, he dragged her into her bedroom, flipping on the light switch before he closed the door with a quiet snap.

Rachel tried to forestall the fury that she saw had a hold of him. “I’m sorry, Cash. I apologize.”

“I’m tired of taking the shit you Porters dish out.” Cash sat down on her bed, pulling her over his lap. Rachel gasped, barely able to stop herself from screaming out loud.

His hand lifted her skirt, showing her frilly pink panties.

“I always wondered if you wore panties or boxers.” She deserved the sarcasm he was throwing her way, but it still hurt her feelings to be compared to a boy.

When his hand smacked her ass, Rachel jumped, but a hard hand pressed down on the middle of her back, holding her in place as several more hard smacks landed on her butt. She remained quiet, though; determined that, no matter how much it hurt, she wouldn’t make a noise. If her brothers ran in here and saw Cash, they would shoot him, and as bad as she hated him right then, she didn’t want him dead.

Review

Cash’s Fight is book #5 in The Last Riders Series and the first book I have read by this author. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review so here goes...

I don’t normally start reading a book in the middle of a series but as this is technically a standalone I figured it would be ok. I was kind of wrong, I understood the storyline but I feel
I would have benefitted from the background info of reading the previous four books in the series.

I was under the impression that this was a book about a MC and it is, but this book was not at all what I was expecting.

The Last Riders are not your typical badass, murdering, drug dealing, gun smuggling MC. It all came as a bit of a shock when they are going to church and working with the police and to be honest seem like they are the good guys.

I didn’t engage with Rachel at all she seems like a bit of a goody two shoes and although Cash does manage to corrupt her a bit I just didn’t particularly like her.

Now Cash I loved and generally thought was hilarious!! He goes from badass alpha to puppy dog cute in the blink of an eye.

Now I don’t want to give away too much but WTF is going on with Friday Nights!!!!!

I’m not a prude and I tend to like my books the kinkier the better but this was again an unexpected kinkfest!!!

The sex scenes were sexy and I loved Cash’s alpha take charge attitude.

The book was incredibly confusing in places as it jumped from thing to thing that having not read the previous books I had no clue about.

Ok seriously what is going on with all of the names???? I get that the Bikers are all nicknames but what about the rest??

Where did all of the girl bikers come from?? And what’s all the voting system about??

For me this book was ok, I prefer my bikers on the wrong side of the law and darker and grittier, that being said I still enjoyed the love story so 3 stars from me.

“I was born in a small town in Kentucky. My family began poor, but worked their way to owning a restaurant. My mother was one of the best cooks I have ever known, and she instilled in all her children the value of hard work, and education.

Taking after my mother, I’ve always love to cook, and became pretty good if I do say so myself. I love to experiment and my unfortunate family has suffered through many. They now have learned to steer clear of those dishes. I absolutely love the holidays and my family puts up with my zany decorations.

For now, my days are spent writing, writing, and writing. I have two children who both graduate this year from college. My daughter does my book covers, and my son just tries not to blush when someone asks him about my books.

Currently I am writing four series of books- The Last Riders, The Dark Souls, The VIP Room, and Biker Bitches series. My favorite book I have written is Soul Of A Woman, which I am hoping to release during the summer of 2014. It took me two years to write, during which I lost my mother, and brother. It’s a book that I truly feel captures the true depths of love a woman can hold for a man. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I am an emotional writer who wants the readers to feel the emotion of the characters they are reading. Because of this, Teased is probably the hardest thing I have written.

All my books are written for one purpose- the enjoyment others find in them, and the expectations of my fans that inspire me to give it my best. In the near future I hope to take a weekend break and visit Vegas that will hopefully be this summer. Right now I am typing away on my next story and looking forward to traveling this summer!”

Her father’s job as an engineer caused the family to move throughout her entire youth. She has spent time in Texas, Idaho, and Nevada before moving back to the eastern part of the country as an adult.

It was during these early years that her love of literature began, starting with Nancy Drew and growing with the Sweet Valley High series stories. This passion grew with each book and has caused her to transition into writing her own stories. Cathryn’s inspiration stems from a diverse childhood, loving family, and oversized lapdog Scarlet. When not giving life to her characters, she enjoys traveling, marathoning TV shows, and spending time with her family.

Less Than Nothing by R.E. Blake - 3.5 Stars

Less Than Nothing by R.E. Blake

3.5 Looking Forward to book #2 Stars
Blurb - Sage’s life as a teenage runaway in San Francisco is simple: Snatch a few hours of sleep on park benches and bus stops; dodge perverts, predators, and cops; and make enough as a street musician to eat. But her world flips upside down when she meets Derek – hot, tattooed, and charming, a singer from Seattle whose looks and talent take her breath away.

What begins as a reluctant partnership quickly develops into a cross-country race against time - and awakens a hunger in Sage that’s unfamiliar and exciting.

As they travel from coast to coast, Sage and Derek pursue their dream, only to discover that they can never run far enough to escape the demons from their pasts.

Less Than Nothing is book #1 in this series and the first book I have read by this author. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review so here goes....

This book was not at all like I was expecting, from the blurb I was anticipating a coming of age love story with a homeless twist. To be honest I’m not at all sure what to classify this book as.

I like Sage, she’s homeless but she’s not down and out and I found myself admiring her survivor spirit.

I’m really not sure what to make of Derek he’s a bit of an enigma and I sway back ways and forwards between liking him and feeling like he is a bit of a dick.

I was not expecting the American Idol style talent show stuff, although I did laugh at the Martin aka Simon Cowell character.

To be honest at times I found Sage a bit mean and judgmental, I mean it was proper harsh that she just walked away from Derek and went as a solo act.

To be completely honest I loved the first half of the book, Sage and Derek meeting and then travelling to New York felt real and honest and I loved the connection they shared and the underlying chemistry.

I found the New York stuff just a bit commercialised and for me it ruined Sage and Derek’s dynamic, at one point I thought the author had just kind of given up on Derek and decided to write his character out.

I loved Jeremy he was hilarious and was a welcome comic relief from what felt like quite an intense story.

When I finished the book I didn’t realise that it was the first book in the series so I was actually shouting at my Kindle. Thank god that it’s not the end because I need to know what happens next you can count me once the next book is released you will be seeing my review lol.

Overall I enjoyed this book I loved the start and although I felt like it lost some of the intimate personal depth once the story hit New York I still got absorbed by the characters 3.5 stars from me.
