Blurb - The first time it happened,
it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more
money than I could ever make. Mom's hospital bills. My baby brother's tuition.
My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost
my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And
then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail.
No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made
out to me, in the amount of ten thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and
leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus
on classes. There was no name on the check, just "VRI Inc.," and a
post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or
reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest,
nothing…except a single word, on the notes line: "You." Just those
three letters.
If you receive a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?
I did.
The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: "belong."
A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. "To me."
The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom's hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you're desperate? You don't. I didn't.
And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: "It's time to pay your debt."
Would you have gotten in?
I did.

It turns out $120,000 doesn't come free.
Ok so this book has been hyped up to the
extreme, like I have literally seen it everywhere and the tag line “You Belong
To Me” definitely lures you in especially if you like that kind of thing. But
hey you wouldn’t be buying a book called Alpha if you didn’t lol.
So does it live up to the hype well kind of
yes... the best way to describe the whole book is a bit odd. I know that
doesn’t explain a lot but that really the only way I can think to explain how I
felt about it.
I definitely went into this book with high
expectations, I like my book boy’s alpha, dominant and sexy and Valentine Roth
is kind of all of those things.
So the good bits...
·
There is a running
theme of underlying sexual tension between Roth & Kyrie which works; I
wanted them to be together.
·
The sex is undeniably
hot!!
And the not so good bits...
·
Blindfolded for days
on end WTF!!!
·
Who cashes a cheque
when they have no idea who it’s from?
I feel a bit mixed about this book, there are
aspects of it which I really liked but there are also bits that had me pulling
an annoyed face and glaring at the pages whilst muttering under my breath.
Ok so I’m gonna rant for a bit.... if someone
sent me a cheque for ten grand and I was desperate I would probably cash it...
it the next two cheques spelt out “You Belong To Me” I would be bricking it!!!
Kyrie seems barely perturbed by it I don’t understand!!!
I don’t care how much sexual tension there is
she gives it up far too easy!!!
Valentine is basically a recluse and yet can
go to the MET and out to various restaurants hmmm!!!
On the other side of things if you forget all
of the annoying plot holes, the sex is hot!!
This book is nowhere near as kinky as the
title ‘Alpha’ would suggest in fact apart from talking the talk for me
Valentine Roth doesn’t really walk the alpha/dom walk.
I guessed that the secret that would make her
walk away would be something to do with her dad. I mean it was kinda obvious I
wasn’t expecting him to have killed him!!!!
Time to rant again... I don’t care how much
you love him, or the circumstances surrounding your dad’s death. Valentine Roth
killed your dad, not sure that’s something that would be so easily gotten over.
I enjoyed this book but I definitely didn’t
love it. It disappointing because I really wanted it to be soooo good L
