A Whole New Crowd by Tijan

Blurb - Taryn grew up in a different world. Her boyfriend
was a criminal. His older brother was part of a gang. They weren’t great
people, but they were her family. Then everything changes when she’s adopted by
a family in the neighboring town. New family. New friends. A new world. She’s
elated. This is her chance for a new beginning, but secrets start being
revealed and Taryn learns her new life has ties to her old one, ties that she’s
not happy about. Her new family might not have been the lucky break she thought
she had. Now she's not only fighting to live that new future, but she's
fighting to survive as well.
I LOVE Tijan, I’m a huge
massive fan; I hadn’t discovered her when this book was a free read so I have
no prior knowledge of the story at all.
As far as I can tell this
book is a cross between the Fallen Crest series and the Carter Reed books.
I loved Taryn, the fact that
she a thief was bizarre and I really need to know what she was stealing prior
to moving to her new home???
I like that fact that she
really didn’t seem to care about people apart from those she classed as family.
Yet once you became family to her she was an incredibly loyal ally.
I felt quite sorry for Taryn;
she genuinely wanted a new life and a new family. It’s sad that she ended up
doing what she always did by stealing and ending up with a dangerous crowd just
in a different place.
Tijan has a way of writing
incredibly deep characters that are still complete enigmas and she did it again
in both Taryn and Tray.
I didn’t really like Tray to start;
I thought that he was just a bit of a weirdo with a god complex. He did grow on
me and then I loved how he took care of Taryn and became a strong reliable presence
for her.
I liked this book but I feel
like I’ve met the characters before. Taryn is very much like Sam (Fallen Crest)
and Tray is a cross between Mason (Fallen Crest) and Carter (Carter Reed).
I would love to read Jace’s
story, his character really intrigued me. He was the bad guy but he had an
intrinsic quality that made him incredibly likeable.
I liked this book; I think if
I had read this book before the Fallen Crest Series I would have loved it. But
for me Fallen Crest is still top of the pops, A Whole New Crowd gets 4 stars
from me.
