4 Beautiful Stars

Chasing the Tide is book #2 in the Reclaiming the Sand Series by A.Meredith Walters, I’m a massive fan of this author and have read alot of her books. So I was super excited to be gifted an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVED Reclaiming the Sand here’s a link to my review, because I loved the first book so much I was really pleased that Flynn and Ellie’s story would carry on. But truthfully I really wasn’t sure what else there was left to say.

This was one of those books that you want to be really good but you’re not sure if it will be. I really worried that I would hate it and that it would ruin the original book which was brilliant because it was so unique.

Somehow A. Meredith Walters has managed to pull it off!!

Chasing the Tide picks up once Ellie has graduated from College three years after the end of the first book. Reclaiming the Sand ends fairly ambiguously because although we assume Flynn and Ellie ultimately have a HEA together we never really know.

Well now we do because that’s what Chasing the Tide is about.

The majority of the book is told from Ellie’s POV but personally I found the chapters in Flynn’s POV the most poignant, his outlook is so simplified and at times childlike that he takes difficult life decisions and relationships down to their most basic forms.

He loves Ellie; he wants to be with Ellie in their home in Wellston for him it’s as simple as that.

Wouldn’t the world be a much easier place if we all disregarded all of the bullshit and just took every decision for is bare bones... will this make me happy???

Ellie makes me sad, the poor girl has not had an easy life and to be honest I would say that she has the most issues out of her and Flynn. I can’t decide if I like her or not, she’s not the nicest of people but I think that’s what makes her so interesting. She has made stupid, horrible decisions but she’s trying to move forward with her life. Like her or not you have to commend her character.

I really liked the flash backs, I think they helped to add a depth to the characters, but at times I did feel like they rehashed old ground that was covered in the first book.

I enjoyed Chasing the Tide, this author is never afraid to deal with the harsher side of life and I’m always intrigued at the spectrum of characters that she makes intriguing and relatable. In other books they would have been overlooked or written off. Personally I didn’t like this book as much as Reclaiming the Sand, but I’m so glad that this gave Flynn and Ellie closure.

Chasing the Tide gets 4 stars from me.
