Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins - The Sweet Trilogy #1 - 2 Stars

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

Two creepy stars
Blurb - Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?
Sweet Evil is the first book in The Sweet Trilogy and the first book I have read by this author.
Ok so the good bits...
·         This is an interesting twist on Good vs. Evil.
And the not so good bits...
·         These teenagers are far too highly sexed for their age!!
·         These kids are 16 & 17 WTF!! I don’t care about the non human circumstances why are they partying till the early hours, drinking, having copious amounts of casual sex and doing drugs!!!
Ok so this is a weird one for me, I enjoyed elements of this book but it also really wound me up.
This is a high school drama with a seriously seedy underbelly.
I quite liked the demons on earth in charge of the seven deadly sins idea, but what I really struggled with was the demons children’s roles.
They ‘work’ by evoking an emotion in human be it Lust, Wrath, addiction etc. But Kaiden is the son of lust so basically his job is to have loads of casual sex!! Now this could be cool if this were an erotic novel but it’s not.  In fact I’m sure this is classed as a YA novel, again this could kind of been overlooked until we learn that Kaiden has been ‘working’ since he was twelve!!!
This book hits the creepy factor again when we look at the twins the daughters of the demon for Adultery. They were sexually active at twelve and when one of the girls still couldn’t see the evil demon ghosts (they are only visible once all innocence has been lost) she was then sent to be raped and tortured by the sons of the demon for murder!!!
This is actually supposed to be a love story between Anna & Kaiden but I didn’t feel any chemistry between them.
God how inappropriate is the scene where Anna and her dad are training and he is plying her with stupid amounts of alcohol so she can learn her limits WTF the girl is barely sixteen!!!
If this book had been set at college and the characters were all very late teens or early twenties I think I could have embraced the story line. But they’re not Anna is only just sixteen and I honestly don’t care that she is half demon, half angel, the sex drugs and general bad behaviour is not appropriate for someone of her age.
If this book is classed as YA and my teenage daughter was reading it I would be appalled!!
To be honest the whole paranormal storyline is completely overshadowed by how creepy thinking about kids doing the stuff they do in this book, sorry but this is not my cup of tea.
