Then Salem Harris comes walking into his life and changes his game plan. Saint finds himself wanting Salem in all the ways that scare him. She is off limits; taken. But that doesn’t stop Saint from going after what he wants, and he wants her. Frankie showed Saint a new way of life with Boxing, but will Salem give him the one thing he's never known – love? Will Saint find himself fighting for the one thing he thinks he doesn't deserve or will Salem end up breaking his heart? Gabriel ‘The Saint’ Vega has had to fight for every good thing he's gotten in his life. Can he go the distance?

3.5 Love A Fighter Stars

On The Ropes is book #1 in the Down For The Count Series, I was lucky enough to be gifted both book #1 and #2 in the series in exchange for an honest review so here goes....

I love a good fighting book; boxers are seriously sexy and tend to have alpha oozing out of their pores which definitely works for me.

On the Ropes has Gabriel aka Saint,  I’m not entirely sure how old he actually is but he’s defiantly got an old head on his shoulders and he seems much more mature than the 20 something he is.

Salem is another interesting character, at the start of the book she is portrayed as a bitchy airhead but she is actually an intelligent young women. I swing backwards and forwards between intrigue and hatred for Salem, I have no idea who she is and what her motives are. I hate that she allows herself to be a doormat, why doesn’t she just dump his smarmy ass????

I like Gabriel he’s endearing and likeable, I also feel kind of sorry for him in this book. Whilst he is mature in some aspects he’s also incredibly naive and innocent in some ways too.

I feel like Salem is totally playing him in this book and I’m not sure if he’s unaware or just happy to be taken along for the ride??

Blaine is an absolute arse, I instantly hated him with a passion from his first appearance, I honestly wanted to reach into the book and slap him!!!

I’m really intrigued where this story will go, this book leaves the story wide open and anything could happen.

On the Ropes gets 3.5 stars from me.

Synopsis
Life has been a roller coaster for Gabriel ‘The Saint’ Vega. From surviving a hellish childhood, to reuniting with his lost brother, only to hit the struggle of helping him battle his drug addiction. Boxing saved Gabriel’s life, and just when his career hits the fast track, he finally finds love with Salem; at least for a short time.
Social differences, obligations, and misguided good intentions tore Gabriel and Salem apart before they could ever really get started. Will Gabriel be able to save his brother from the whirlpool of addiction that threatens to drag him under? Is Salem capable of breaking away from the ropes that bind her to doing what’s expected rather than what and whom she desires? Can Gabriel convince Salem that their mutual feelings are worth fighting for, and that together, they will be able to go the distance?

3.5 Thank God For Happy Endings Stars

Going The Distance is book #2 in the Down For The Count Series,

I read this book straight after finishing book #1 On The Ropes and I’m glad I did because it kept me a part of the characters worlds and immersed in the drama.

God I feel so sorry for Gabriel in this book, he’s seems completely delusional about Salem. I worried that she would drop him on his ass and stay with Blaine.

I spent half of this book hating Salem and then it all kicked off and she changed my opinion of her. She really stepped up in the later part of this book and I loved the effect Gabriel had on her. She definitely had a journey from when she first appears in On the Ropes to the strong independent women she is by the end of this book.

I’m trying to not have any spoilers so this may all seem a bit vague but I was surprised that
Blaine went so quietly he seemed like the type to make more of a fuss.

Poor Jase I didn’t expect that but I suspected that Blaine had something to do with it.

I love Frankie and Gabriel’s relationship in this book, again Gabriel goes from being a man to being a scared little boy and it was so nice to see their kinship solidified.

I’m glad that this book gets such a happy ending, because at times I really didn’t know if it would end with love 3.5 stars
