Heart Recaptured
is book #2 in the Hades Hangmen Series by the brilliant Tillie Cole. To say
that I’m a bit of fan girl for Tillie’s books would be a tad of an
understatement!! It Ain't Me Babe the first book in the Hades Hangmen Series is
up there with my favourite books ever (here’s
a link to my review). As you can imagine I was literally wetting
myself with excitement when I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an
honest review.
I have a pretty
tight reading schedule, especially on months like this when I have 40+ books to
read and review. But I have to say the temptation to say sod the schedule and
just read this book the moment it hit my kindle was overwhelming!!!
I could wax
lyrical for pages about why I loved It Ain’t Me Babe, so book #2 Heart
Recaptured had me placing some pretty heavy expectations on the books shoulders
to live up to the brilliance that was its predecessor.
The question on everyone’s
lips is well, did it live up to the hype.....
Simply put......
Yes it did but in a completely different way than the first book.
This book is
about Ky and Lilah, but honestly it’s not.
This is Lilah's
book and Christ what a story!!! I’m going to be honest; at the start of the
book I didn’t really like Lilah. She came across as a bit psycho, desperate to
be rescued from Hades Hangman hell and returned to the nutters R us cult.
My initial
reaction was WTF is wrong with this woman!!! I felt like she had completely
tipped over the edge into loopyville and stopped off at brainwashed.com on the
way.
And then we get a
closer look at Lilah and see the innocent, tortured, manipulated soul that she
actually is. And I instantly invested in this book, Lilah is not insane or self
righteous she’s broken and damaged and so conditioned to the abuse she has
endured for so long she simply cannot survive without it.
Again the idea
that a cult could actually exist where women are persecuted and isolated simply
because they are beautiful is horrifying. What’s worse is religion that should
be peaceful and nurturing and a place of universal safety being turned on its
head and manipulated and spun to serve an evil purpose.
Tillie Cole has
created this beautifully written story that is so wonderfully heartbreaking. Lilah’s
downward spiral is difficult to read, she hates being beautiful because it has
caused her to live a life of sexual abuse and brainwashing that has led her to
a point that she fears everyone is being tempted by the devil because of her.
I was touched by Lilah;
she is so childlike and desperate to please. It’s unnerving to read some of the
scenes where she is so subservient to the men around her. I hated the men who had
forced her to become the downtrodden woman who feels she’s evil!!!
Ky, god the mouth
on that bloke!!! But the wonderful, sweet way he dealt with Lilah had me
melting into a puddle of goo.
I love it when a
hard, biker man who is happy to kill and maim goes ga ga over a women. I mean
he is hook, linker and sinker gone and I loved it!!!!
That cult really
needs to get their comeuppance and it needs to be soon!!!! Send Flame over
there he will sort them out and laugh manically as he does it!!!!
This may be Ky
and Lilah’s book but on any page where Flame was mentioned he stole the show!!!
I love him, he’s mad as a box of frogs but I LOVE HIM!!!! I am counting down
until book #3 Flame and Maddie's story comes out.
Somehow I managed
to overlook the bikers and how morally corrupt they are, in this series they
are the good guys and that overshadows the violent and aggressive acts.
This book stole a
bit of my soul, it makes me need to kiss my children and hug my husband and be
grateful.
I loved this
book, it’s different to It Ain’t Me Babe but it provoked that same reaction so
again it gets an incredibly easy 5 stars and a place in my favourite books of
the year!!!
